Living in the town of Keene means becoming part of a caring and open community. Since it is a small town (about 1250 residents full time, with about 1350 more who are seasonal residents), you get to know most of your neighbors. When someone is in trouble, there are always neighbors willing to help. Our many community organizations are one tangible result of this community spirit: our churches, arts organizations and community garden.
The town-wide fiber optic broadband system is used by almost everyone who lives here and provides the ability for people to stay connected even when they are away from the valley. The NextDoor local social network now counts over 800 members. If you spend any time here regularly, you really should join. You need to get someone already a member to invite you into the system, so ask one of your friends in town.
There are many opportunities to volunteer to help around town. The libraries, the fire and EMS crews, back country rescue, the school, the Neighborhood House, the church and so on. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and get involved. All you need to do is introduce yourself to the group you are interested in.
